My plans for the upcoming homeschool year are taking a surprising turn. My two older daughters are attending Bible college. This means I will be homeschooling first grade on my own. It's been awhile. It is such a blessing to be a mother in the home. And, even with planning, there is time for mother culture! So, I've been reading Anne of Green Gables. I can't believe I never read it. I am reading slowly to linger, and soak in all the words! Then I began my planning .. and it turned into this. With it being just me, I felt a need to simplify even more. So I am condensing my programs of study into one course book. It is by level. Level 1 is a family together course for grades 1 to 6. We will be enjoying some wonderful living books & narrations. I need lessons to be short & do-able! As I also have preschool lessons with my 2-year-old. Here's a look at the level 1 morning schedule. Here's how my schedule will work. Time Block #1 - Morning Time: We will enjoy prayer, recitation, calendar, and devotional. I am considering More Than Words for our devotional this year. I will be sharing my booklist in a future post. (10 - 15 minutes: trying for 9:00 am) Time Block #2 - Christian Study: We will enjoy a simplified version of Program 1 and will study Bible, History, American History, Geography, and Health (or other elective). (20 minutes: trying for 9:15 am) Time Block #3 - Math (Part of Program 3): We will continue the Rod & Staff Math Curriculum which is solid and thorough for first grade. (15 to 20 minutes: about 9:25 am) Time Block #4 - Language Arts & Science (Part of Program 3): We will study Level 1 of both Enjoying Language Arts & Enjoy Science. (15 to 20 minutes: about 9:45 am) Time Block #5 - Seatwork (Part of Program 3): This encourages independent study. We will use this time to practice the basic skills of reading and writing and extra spelling practice. For free reading, I am considering Storytime Treasures 1 by Memoria Press as an extra. Ofcourse we will continue McGuffey (as A loves this!). (10 minutes: around 10:00 am) Time Block #6 - Enrichments. This is flexible. We can use an enrichment of choice or continue with our Enrichment Study 1 book which plans it all. (15 - 60 minutes: from 10:10 to 11:00 am) Extras: Outdoor Play and Nature Study is planned in as well. This gives us ample time to play outdoors before lunch or we could finish enrichments outside. I planned in an extra special book once per week - Slow Down. This will be in addition to our nature study from program 2, which I will also be using. Here's a peek at our booklist for the autumn term. I will be sharing our booklist for the full year in my next post. I'm really looking forward to this together book with my A. Teacher lessons are on the left side and . . . student pages (journal pages and worksheets) on the right side. This book will be a keepsake. It will be filled with A's narrations, illustrations, and journals for year 1.
