Most of us do better with a plan in front of us. It's so easy to get lost in the day. The tyranny of the urgent overtakes, and pretty soon, we're chasing the mess, rather than following the plan. That's why I decided to write a guide book for my day - A Mother's Companion. It has lesson plans for mom which is 3 doable tasks each day that includes all the things I want to remember to do, but often forget. Things like exercise and time for beauty. My lesson plan books always come with a free booklist, and in this one, I decided to include some of my favorite vintage books. Here are a few of them. #1 Secrets of CharmAs a mother, I like to set aside a little time each week (even 15 minutes) to spend time on Beauty. It could be painting nails, coloring hair, or soaking in a hot bath. For this, my favorite vintage book that I refer to over and over again is Secrets of Charm by Powers and Miller. This book goes beyond the basics: it is a complete charm course! In A Mother's Companion - Volume 1, you will cover the first part of the book. We'll continue other parts in later volumes. #2 The Bride's EncyclopediaAs a mother, I also like to find new ways to bring etiquette and finer living to the home. It's in the little touches. Soft music. A candle burning. Mail by the plates at dinner. Again, I set aside just 15 minutes per week for an Etiquette Lesson, but, by digging-in and really applying what we learn, we can grow in this area. My favorite vintage book for this is The Bride's Encyclopedia. #3 George, Your Wife Is An Excellent CookThis is actually a vintage pamphlet on entertaining that I had to include. It gives some wonderful plans for entertaining in different situations including a time table for preparation and a menu with recipes. I have a lot of other favorite vintage books for mothers on my bookshelf, but these are some of the treasured ones that I wanted to share in A Mother's Companion: for a Happy Home.
