Interesting to Note!  Grade 1 uses a newly discovered book (to me), Lessons in the Use of English, for Language Arts.  It's a wonderful book filled with living methods! 

Old Fashioned Education utilizes textbooks from the 1900's because they have the advantage of being:

• quality (not dumbed down),
• truth-filled (not political propaganda), and
• free (in the public domain).

Two modern books, including English for the Thoughtful Child and First Language Lessons, were both based on this work.  Our booklist links the original book in the FREE domain.
